MACED has been offsetting its carbon usage at its Berea offices through the Appalachian Carbon Partnership since 2009. In 2012, MACED started offsetting carbon emissions at its two field offices in Paintsville and Hazard. MACED's offsets include those from all office buildings, flight and vehicle travel and hotel emissions.
MACED has permanently retired 255.48 mT (metric tons) of carbon dioxide since 2009 by investing in privately owned Appalachian forestland through the ACP.
